The crowd roars for a goal scored, but the volume is quantifiable higher for that one stadium save! That moment a goalkeeper just barely gets his five fingers on the ball to push it past the post that sends the crowd into a frenzy…. for me that’s the one…. that’s the “stadium save” that has me forever captivated by this position.

I found that defending against the juggernaut of the goal scoring mentality that was prevalent with
coaching when I was a youth player; changed the course of the game. I saw that the result of a solid goalkeeper could influence the flow and direction of the game. And my teammates rallied around me with confidence!

As I grew into my role as a goalkeeper, my challenges grew as well. Tapped to be the starting varsity goalkeeper of my high school at 13 was a daunting but rewarding 4 years. Each year being unanimously selected first team all conference and all regional. All the hard work and passion afforded me the opportunity to play up as a keeper for some strong travel teams out of Chicago and Wisconsin. I traveled to train and played with boys much older then myself. But that time spent in the mud and rain, the cold and wind, and hours upon hours of muscle hurt, built a mentally to succeed in the net!

I have felt the immediate sting of loss and the temporary adulation of victory, from high school, travel and college. In all my years I’ve been fortunate enough to play in the oldest soccer leagues with some legendary teams. I found myself in the net, playing alongside some great athletes, for advancing semi pro teams in San Francisco and Los Angeles. And I’ve gained much reward finishing my career playing with illustrious clubs in the Midwest. I have enjoyed many an evening with old souls who know the value and virtue of quality soccer and cherish each inspiring moment.
As my life experience changed much with the birth of my 4 children, so did my direction. I've been blessed enough to have stayed at home and raise my children, each one more unique then the next. This has created in me a heart of compassion and understanding, but also a focus on persistence and reward.

I’ve experienced the on-field loss at a personal level and I’ve shared in the victory at a team level…. This is a position that carries the burden of the entire team, but it also carries the trophy of hard work!
